At Quantum4, we offer strategic design partnerships to some of the world’s leading brands and retailers. Whether it is a brand refresh, new product launch or managing a complex tender programme, we work to deliver the best value for your company. From invention, design and prototype all the way through installation of the display equipment, our specialist team enables us to create a global reach. Yet, this wouldn’t be possible without our local team.
We have created our ‘A Day in the Life’ series to provide an insight on how our team provides global results.
Today, we take a look into a day in the life of our Managing Director, Tim Smith.
1. What does a typical day at Q4 entail?
I’m responsible for the sales, marketing and operational functions at Quantum4, as well as overseeing the relationships with all of our business partners and manufacturers. From engaging with my colleagues to discuss new business strategies, to planning how to integrate sustainability into our partnerships, all aspects of my role require an active and hands on approach. Sustainability is a key driver at Quantum4, and having such a diverse client base gives us the opportunity to explore new projects that integrate our core approach into every design. As you can see- there’s no such thing as a typical day!
2. How did you get into retail design fit?
Retail has always been my passion and I’m lucky it has shaped my career! Starting on the Marks & Spencer graduate programme, it fuelled my passion for the industry, enabling me to interact with a variety of inspirational people and companies in the business. As brands constantly evolve and adapt, it’s an industry that constantly keeps you engaged, keeping up with the latest trends and NPD continues to drive my enthusiasm to adapt and advance too.
3. As MD, what direction do you intend to take Quantum4 this year?
COVID-19 has impacted the market drastically; many retailers have had to rapidly adapt to the unprecedented time. With high levels of uncertainty in the UK and global markets, planning for the future is increasingly complex but more vital than ever.
With a strong leadership team, I want to push through the uncertainty and prepare for the future. COVID-19 has changed the shape of retail and Quantum4 are ready to provide retailers with new design ideas and concepts to drive further efficiency and sustainability into the design process. Our unique all-encompassing end-to- end global design proposition allows retailers to transport our designs to their specified manufacturers, allowing our customers to continue to deliver new design displays into environments around the world.
4. From your perspective, what are the key industry trends?
Technology is, and will continue to be a key driver in our industry. When paired with true design imagination, technology allows us to customise every retail experience to suit both individual retailers and their customer base. From bringing the retail experience to life to engaging with customers in new and innovate ways, technology has inspired a new era of creativity and I look forward to seeing how it progresses.
5. What one headline about the retail industry would you like to see this year?
“New design and sustainability concepts help the retail industry thrive in 2020”
