It’s exciting when Quantum 4 come across a brand new retailer that is making such a conscious effort to take their environmental impact seriously. That’s what the outdoor fashion Outsiders Store is doing in Liverpool. They asked Q4 to put on our green hats and make the fixtures 100% recyclable.
What Outsiders Store wanted
The Outsiders Store creative team was inspired by Drop City, a ‘counter culture’ artist’s community based in Colorado in the 70s. They wanted to reference some of this ‘hippie modernism’ in the store concept, and asked Q4 to bring the idea up to date through the judicious use of materials and finishes.
What Q4 created
We called upon our engineered design skills to reflect the cool, innovative, customer-centric but essentially sustainable aspects of the store design. FSC-certified timber was used at every turn to, in effect, bring the outside to the inside. The green fixturing ensured a pleasing end result which will be perfectly capable of withstanding the demands of a tough retail environment.
What we achieved
Our design prowess introduced a sensory shopping experience for customers – increasingly important for retail environments today. As you move round the store, the fixtures encourage people to look, dwell, touch and ultimately buy the product. Finishing touches of splashes of colour were cleverly utilised to enhance the beautiful detailing of selected timber frames.
What they said
“A store concept needs to be robust. Whilst we would love to make everything by hand (the way a counter-culture community would do) not everything in a retail space can be made that way. Certain elements such as the fixtures need to be built to last. This is what Q4 are so good at.”
